Copper or brass are semi-precious metals. The material is a mixture of copper and zinc. It is very suitable for jewellery because it is very strong. Copper is an orange/rose-coloured material, brass has a golden look. Both metals are nickel-free. Just like sterling silver (precious metal), the material can oxidise. Oxidation is a reaction that occurs when the metal comes into contact with moisture and air. Due to the oxidation process, the material will darken and acquire a natural patina. With copper, the shiny light pink colour will darken to a less shiny orange-brown. With brass, the shiny golden colour will also darken slightly and become matt in colour. This is a natural process. You can (if you like it) just leave it as it is. You can also remove the discolouration by dipping your jewel into a cleaning bath for jewellery. A bath for silver jewellery is also suitable for copper & brass.
